What cause Wrinkles?
During the natural ageing process of the skin, as we get older, our skin gets drier, thinner and has less elastic, making harder for the body to heal itself which results in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Wrinkles can affect everyone differently as a number of factors can influence your skins behaviour from genetics to environment.
- Sun exposure (e.g., Tanning beds, UV lights)
- Dehydration (e.g. Lack of moisture will affect skin’s ability to recover)
- Medication
- Smoking
- Stress
- Genetics
- Facial expressions
Types of Wrinkles
Expression Wrinkles
Being formed because of common facial expressions, if you have wrinkles such as laugh lines and frown lines it is because during your life you have expressed certain facial muscles more than others. As we age, skin becomes less elastic so when we frown or smile those lines stick as the skin cannot bounce back.Elastotic Wrinkles
These wrinkles occur as the skin loses it elastic structure in the skin, and are usually caused because of over-exposure to the UV rays, smoking, air pollution and other environmental factors. These wrinkles can appear on your cheeks, upper lip, the base of the neck, they start as superficial lines but over time they deepen and cause the skin to sag.Atrophic Wrinkles
Atrophic wrinkles are wrinkles that run parallel to each other and usually appear on the forehead between your eyebrows. These wrinkles occur due to ageing and loss of collagen, elasticity and the thinning of the skin.Compression Wrinkles
Also known as sleep wrinkles, they are created from sleeping on your stomach or side. As you sleep, your face gets squashed with the pillow and these leaves lines and indents on the skin; they usually fade throughout the day but as you age, these lines and wrinkles will form permanently.Gravitational Wrinkles
As the name suggests, these wrinkles occur due to gravity and the deflation affect. Gravitational wrinkles appear as sagging skin, as the loss of collagen and elasticity will lead to the skin sagging over time.Treatments we offer for Wrinkles
We offer a range of treatments that can target and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Unsure of what treatments will be the best for you? When you come for your consultation, our skin will advise you on the best choice for your goals.

Dermal Fillers
Dermal filler injections can plump the skin naturally. It acts like a structure, supporting in places where it lacks, giving you a more youthful-looking appearance.
Lightfusion™ Light Therapy
The Lightfusion™ Light Therapy uses 2 light wavelengths that have been proven to be absorbed well in the skin cells, stimulating the production of collagen and elastic in that theated area.
Pixel Laser Resurfacing
The laser is delivered to the skin through a micro-optics lens and creates pixel sized ablation dots onto the skin which penetrates deep into the area of concern. The pixels created within the skin stimulates the production of new collagen, leading to tighter, firmer looking skin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Smoking is also said to cause acne in older people. Whatever the underlying reasons as to why you have acne, it all results in one thing – hair follicles becoming blocked by sebum from surrounding sebaceous glands, and dead skin cells. These plugged hair follicles can either turn into whiteheads or blackheads, and if the (usually) harmless bacteria that lives on our skin then infects the follicles, you can even experience cysts, papules, nodules or pustules. None of which are any fun for the person having to deal with them.
Our skincare experts take time to get to know and understand your acne concerns and issues, and only then will they make an informed decision as to which acne treatment is the best for you. That could be:
- lightfusion™ Light Therapy
- Skin Peels
- Pixel Laser Resurfacing
You do not need to stop wearing makeup if you have acne. However, you should wear makeup that is non-comedogenic. This means that it doesn’t block the pores.
Not necessarily. As mentioned above, acne can be caused by a number of triggers, and however much you clean your face it’s not going to affect how crazy your hormones are being. Sometimes, cleaning your face too much can even contribute to acne as it can aggravate spots.
Furthermore, using alcohol-based cleansers can dry your skin out and this isn’t a good thing as far as acne is concerned. Despite what you may think, and even if you feel like you have excessively oily skin, it’s still important to use a moisturiser – just make sure you opt for a non-comedogenic one.
Everyone is different, but acne – more often than not – does eventually go away. For many, it’s puberty that can kick things off and acne often settles down when puberty does. However, acne can sometimes persist into your adult years.
That said, our skincare specialists have worked with many clients who wanted their acne to disappear and felt like they had tried everything. As you will see from our success stories and testimonials, we have had hugely positive and effective results.
